I have always been attracted to the natural landscape, and began painting by working in plein air, in a representational style. After many years of painting from life, I came to prefer the methodology of studio work, from photos and sketches, as it releases me into a zone of imaginary color. I use the palette knife for paint application, and look for happy accidents that lead me into new territory.
